Abstract

Evaluation of new approach of application written examinations from the three grade in 1994 in 10 primary schools in Babylon province, five schools were selected randomly for this purpose and compared with other five elementary schools from the same sub districts which applied the classical approach (written examination at fifth grade) , the objective of this study was to estimate the impact of the new approach on the school performance of pupils , results revealed that school children exposed to written examinations in the early years of elementary education(from the third year) achieved significantly high scores and their success rate was higher in the fifth grade as compared to the control group, this could explain that this approach may improve their self-confidence and capacities in problem solving as well as increasing their skills in learning Arabic language and myth, in conclusion this approach is effective way to improve education at this level and may help to reduce school dropout in Iraq
