Effect of Soil Type on Some Vegetative and Floral Growth Characters of Jasminum sambac (L.) Ait.

Abstract

This study was conducted in the Lath House of College of Agriculture University of Basrah , on Jasmine plants Jasminum sambac (L.) Ait .,aged one -year old planted in pots during the period 10th January to 10th June , 2013 to investigate effect of soil type (Sand and Sandyness and Peatmoss and Clay ) on some vegetative and floral growth characters of plant . Results showed that plants grown in Peatmoss soil recorded significant increases in plant height ,number of lateral branches, number of leaves and flower fresh weight of plant. Plants grown in Sandyness soil increased plant height , number of lateral branches and number of leaves of plant significantly, whereas plants grown in Sand soil had significant increase in the number of leaves of plant
