Embodiment in the Quranic Expression

Abstract

AbstractThis paper is entitled "Embodiment in the Quranic Expression". It aims at unfolding the rhetorical embodiment images in the Holy Book of Quran, investigating them, and questioning them for their elements of beauty and their own purposes. Embodiment, in its artistic sense, is the attribution of sensuous qualities to abstract and mental realizations and to the psychical states as if they were concrete and material bodies.Although the Quranic embodiment has three types, viz, mental, psychical, and temporal, only does the last record the prominent presence and frequency among them.Most significantly, the study has found out that many of the artistic Quranic images have been based on embodiment in an artistic style of imagery of the Quranic expression, especially those images of temporal embodiment. Most of such images are sensuous and visual that best suit the Arabian environment and the Arabs as recipients at the time of revelation, in order to achieve their artistic and religious purposes. The Quranic expression is an intended artistic expression that aims at affecting the recipient. It, moreover, was revealed in accordance with the Arabic styles that were common among Arabs at the time of revelation. Therefore, those who did not apprehend the intended meaning of Quranic text and did not realize its aesthetic aspects were among those who did not have enough knowledge of Arabic, its expressions, and its rhetorical facets such as simile, metaphor, pun, etc. For the rhetorical miracle of is the first Quranic miracle.
