The role of biology curriculum to food and health awareness of third intermediate grade students

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the role of biology curriculum to food and health awareness of third intermediate grade students through a field study in Baghdad . To achieve this, the study sought to answer the following questions :Q1. To what extent acquire of food and health concepts contained in the curriculum of biology of third intermediate grade students ?Q2. Is there a difference statistically significant at the significance level (0.05) between the average grades acquire food and health concepts contained in the curriculum of biology of third intermediate grade students, depending on: Gender ?Q3. To what extent food awareness among third intermediate grade students ?Q4. Is there a difference statistically significant at the significance level (0.05) between the average degrees of food awareness of third intermediate grade students, depending on : Gender ?Q5. To what extent health awareness among third intermediate grade students?Q6. Is there a difference statistically significant at the significance level (0.05) between the average degrees of health awareness of third intermediate grade students, depending on : Gender ?Q7. Is there a Correlation relationship between the acquisition of food and health concepts contained in the curriculum of biology, food and health awareness and the awareness of third intermediate grade students ? To answer questions from the study were selected a sample of (110) students (male and female) , of which (52) students-male and (58) students-female , were selected from the General Directorate for Educational Baghdad schools / Rusafa first for the academic year (2014-2015) . Achieve the goal of the study requires the preparation of three (3) tools , represented the first tool achievement test to measure the acquisition of food and health concepts contained in the curriculum of biology, and the second tool (questionnaire) expressed its nutritional awareness , and the third tool (questionnaire) to identify health awareness. has been groomed by reviewing the literature and studies on scientific concepts food and health food and health awareness , and survey sample the opinions of university professors, supervisors and guide the World Health Organization and biology teachers in intermediate schools. To ensure the veracity of the study tools were presented to a panel of experts, with the agreement adopted proportion (85%) or more of the expert opinion to accept the paragraphs of each tool , and extract the psycho metric properties of the paragraphs of each tool, using a correlation coefficient to find consistency, reaching a high percentage .The study found the following results :1. Each of contrast : the acquisition of food and health concepts contained in the curriculum of biology, food and health awareness and the awareness of third intermediate grade students to varying degrees .2. Level acquisition food and health concepts contained in the curriculum of biology students-female of third intermediate grade students level is greater than the acquisition of students – male .3. There is no difference in the level of nutritional awareness among students (male and female) .4. level of health awareness among female students is greater than the level of health awareness among male students .5. There is a correlation between the presence of students scientific concepts contained in the biology curriculum of third intermediate grade students food and health awareness and health consciousness .The study included a number of illustrations and statistical tables illustrate the study procedures and their findings , and concluded with some recommendations and proposals .
