The effect of using the generative learning model in the teaching of Physics on the gaining and retention of the physical concepts to the secondary stage Students

Abstract

The aim of this study is to know the effect of using the generative learning model in the teaching of Physics on the gaining and Retention of the physical concepts to the secondary stage students. The researcher chose the research sample in a purpose which is (Al- Rabee Secondary school for boy) of the Directorate of Education of Dhi Qar/ Qalat Suker district for the 2014-2015 educational year/ morning study. The researcher used the two equivalent groups’ experimental design, these groups with posttest, in a number of variables (the first course scores, the student’s previous information, the age in months, the Intelligence, and the parents’ educational level); the first group is experimental while the second one is normal or traditional group. The research sample consisted of (60) students, (30) students in the experimental group and (30) students in the normal group. A physical concepts test was prepared by the researcher with a (40) paragraphs characterized by honesty and consistency. After applying the previous test on the research sample, the data was analyzed statistically using the T test for two independent samples, Kay rectangle, and kuder- Richardson Formula using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). This study showed a presence of differences with statistically significant between the two groups in the posttest in the gaining and retention of the physical concepts particularly for the experimental group. One of the important conclusions of this study is that the generative learning model was effective and better than the teaching normal method of gaining the physical concepts. The researcher offered a number of recommendations such as, adopting of the generative learning model in the physics teaching for the first secondary class due to the ability of this model on the growing of the scientific thinking and material’s arrangement which lead to gain and retain the physical concepts. Also, the researcher offered a number of suggestions such as; make a study of using the generative learning model and its effectiveness of the student’s final scores and the creative thinking development.
