Evaluation of Serum Adiponectin and Bone Mineral Density in Nodal osteoarthritis patients

Abstract

Background: Many studies have explain that adiponectin have an important role in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis, but little is known about the relation between serum adiponectin and nodal osteoarthritis.Subjects and methods: Sixty Nodal osteoarthritis patients (male and female) and60 controls (male and female) included in the study; serum adiponectin and Bone mineral density (T-score) were measured in all subjects. Student t-test was applied to find out the significance of difference between two means. Results: Significant increase in the mean of serum adiponectin and significant decrease in the Bone mineral density (T-score) between Nodal osteoarthritis patients and control groups have been found. Also significantly increase in the mean of serum adiponectin between Nodal osteoarthritis patients according to Bone mineral density. Conclusion: The results of the current study suggest that adiponectin might have a role in the pathogenesis of NOA and osteoporosis.
