A new host for plain tiger butterfly Danaus chrysippus Linnaeus (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae, Danainae) in Baghdad province

Abstract

An investigation was provided in this study for the host range of plain tiger butterfly Danaus chrysippus L. in Baghdad province. Three host plants were found infected by the larvae of this species: Periploca graeca L.; Asclepias curassavica L. and Calotropis procera (Wild) (family; Asclepiadaceae), the first host is here registered as a new larval host plant for D. chrysippus in Iraq.
