Abstract

This paper entitled "The Role of Khallo in Preserving Kurdish Proverbs" is an attempt to bring up some Kurdish proverbs which are compiled by some Kurdish scholars and compare and contrast them to one another. For that purpose, light was shed on the most prominent figure in that field who is the poet Piramerd. Piramerd compiled the proverbs and then recomposed them in the form of poems. After that, the scholar Shekh Mohammadi Khal also was able to compile many other proverbs and discuss and analyze them. Moreover, some other proverbs are exposed which are compiled by the poet Khallo but do not exist in Piramerd and Shekh Mohammadi Khal's works.Apart from the introduction, this paper consists of three parts. Part one discusses the importance of proverbs to the poet Khallo. Part two consists of two chapters. Chapter one deals with comparing the proverbs in both poets' (Khallo and Piramerd) works whilst chapter two deals with comparing the proverbs in Khallo and Shekh Mohammadi Khal's works. In addition, part three exposes a number of proverbs that exist only in Khallo's works but do not exist in Piramerd and Shekh Mohammadi Khal's works. The paper ends with the conclusion and the list of references.
