Statistical and Epidemiological Study of Infection with Cutaneous Leishmaniasis that Caused byLeishmania tropica Parasite in Karbala City

Abstract

This Epidemiological study was conduct to detect the numbers of patients and morbidity rates of parasitic cutaneous infections in the general Hussain hospital in Karbala city during the period between 132009 and 2822010. 2389 patients was examined to diagnosis Leishmania tropica via direct microscopical examination and confirm by used immunoflorescent test in additional to case history and clinical signs that appear on the patients. The results were compared according to patient sex , age , and address as well as the weather. Results showed that there were no significant differences between males and females so had been recorded infection of 57 cases by Leishmania tropica with rate 1.73% from which 31 males and 26 females with rates 54.39% , 45.61% respectively . The age group (21-30 years) in males there was 11 infection cases with the highest rate 73.33% , and the morbidity rate was decreased in the age group(41-70 years ) that in which there was one infection with rate 33.33% , but in females the morbidity rate with younger age group (one day – 10 years)was increased which was11 cases in compared with that ages ranged between (41-60 years) which was 2infected females with rates 68.75% and 66.67% respectively ,while there was no any infection in the group age of (61-70 years). The infection was increased in the high density regions that have poor medical services and presents of intermediate host of the parasite as in AL- Hur region was 7 cases with rate 12.281% but infection rates was decreased in other regions that have good live conditions . Finally the cold months of years was record higher infections in which there were 7 infection cases in males with rate 50% and in female we found the same results that which recorded in males during December in compared with that hot seasons of years.
