Study of 2-D Laminar Flow In A pipe With A sudden Contraction of Cross Sectional Area

Abstract

AbstractThe paper presents a detailed numerical study of laminar flow in a pipe with suddencontraction in its cross sectional area. A computer program has been developed to analyze thelaminar flow field in the pipe-sudden contraction configuration. The Navier-Stockes andenergy equations are solved using primitive variables with a finite -volume (FV) solutionmethod. The study was carried out for a Reynolds numbers range up to 750 and for differentcontraction ratios (d/D). The results demonstrate that the separation regions increase with theincrease of Reynolds numbers. And the contraction ratio (d/D) has significant effect on theseregions.
