Effect of moisture tension and depth of Agriculture and moisturizing of seeds with two different textures of soils in emergence of maize, Zea Mays L

Abstract

Experiments were carried out in the green house in Technical Institute AL Mussaib during the agricultural season 2007 - 2008 to study the effect of moisture tension and depth of Agriculture and wetting the seeds before planting on the rate and speed of seedling emergence and the hight in corn plant. Were used in two different soils texture taken from different locations ( Sandy Loam and Silty Clay ) and used five levels of moisture tension ( 0.1, 0.3, 1.0, 5.0, 10.0 ) K.p with three depths of agriculture is (2, 4 and6cm). They also planted the seeds dry and the other moisturizing for two hours before planting. Experiments were carried out by Randomized complet block design RCBD with three replicates and then compared to averages by less significant differencetest 0.05% .Search Results indicated that the heavy soil texture ( Silty Clay ) gave the speed and rate of emergence of a higher and wider range to moisture tension compared to light( Sandy Loam) texture. It was also noted that when increasing the depth of Agriculture, accompanied by a decrease in the ratio of the speed of emergence and rate of plant height in both textures. Also , wetting the seed before planting has increased the rate and speed of emergence in both textures especially when high moisture levels of tension for mor than ( 1 ) K.Pa.
