Abstract

ABSTRACT This research tackles the strategy of Mohammed Ali Basha in building modern Egypt, transferring it from middle to modern ages. He first began by gaining the love of Egyptian people. He utilized the hatred of people to Mamluke's injustice. Then he worked on developing industries, agriculture, and schools as well as army and navy. He depended only on local products and turned his back to Europeans in every aspect Egyptians can achieve supremacy. The research also studies the relation between Mohammed Ali Basha and Ottoman Soltan Mohammed the second (1808-1839) and how the central government in Turkey sought the help of Mohammed Ali Basha to end revolutions. When, for example, Greek revolution erupted and beaten Ottoman forces there, Soltan Mohammed the second was annoyed and sought the help of Mohammed Ali Basha and the latter obeyed the orders of the sultan. Mohammed Ali Basha came armed with his modern Egyptian army specially the naval force that flourished in his reign. Mohammed Ali Basha was also a wise man used his triumphs to spread his authority So, he obeyed sultans' orders to end Greek revolution and authorized his son Ibrahim Basha to achieve that goal and with the military force of Egypt, Ibrahim Basha was able to end the revolution. However, the insistence of Greeks to keep their revolution alive as well as their independence revived through many parts like French revolution, Russian czar, religious powers in Greece as well as European countries. Greeks were able to declare their revolution and independence in January 1822. But the Ottoman sultan refused that and determined on bringing Greece back to Ottoman Empire.
