Abstract

Bone regeneration is a major limiting factor in oral surgery regenerative therapy. The concept ofguided tissue regeneration has provided the strongest evidence that tissue healing can beinfluenced exogenously by wound management. At the cellular level, the existence ofosteoprogenitors with the capacity to produce bone in the wound site and the potential toexogenously influence the behavior of these cells offers the opportunity to further enhanceregenerative wound healing. Chitosan, with a chemical structure similar to hyaluronate, hasbeen implicated as a wound healing agent. The purpose of this research was to evaluate theeffect of chitosan on osteoblast differentiation and bone formation in vitro.
