Effect of adding Ginger to layer diets on Hens performance

Abstract

college of Agriculture/ University of Baghdad during the period from 1/2/ 2008 to 1/8/2008 to investigate the effect of adding different levels of Ginger powder to layer diets on some productive performance . Ninety laying hens (Lohman Brown) at the age of 20 weeks were used in this study .At the age of 22 weeks , the hens were individually weighed and randomly distributed into five treatments , each treatment with three replicates (6 hens/ replicate) . The treatments were as follows : T1:(control)with out any addition , the remaind treatments included different addition of Gingers powder : T2:% 1 , T3: %1.5 ,T4:%2 , T5:%2.5.The results revealed that the treatments included addition of Gingers powder showed significant This study was carried out at the poultry farm of Animal Resources Dep. superiority in egg production percentage during the three last production periods, the treatments 4 and 5 showed highest egg production, followed by treatment 2 and 3. Treatments with Ginger showed significant increase in feed in take as compared with control treatment during production periods 3,4 and 6 . The best feed conversion ratios were noticed in Ginger treatments. No significant differences among all treatments in weight gains and egg weight during the whole production period. Results of this study showed that the addition of Gingers powder to layer diets had an positive effect on whole productive traits
