Relationship between the Dental health and prevalence's Trichomonas tenax and Entamoeba gingivalis among patients attending Dental Clinics in Kirkuk.

Abstract

A sample of 500 patients of both sexes. referred for AL- Salaam Dental specialized Center for dental disease in Kirkuk-Iraq, The period of study was from (2010-2011).The samples were taken and examined by wet mount smear and Giemsa staining for diagnosis of Entamoeba gingivalis and Trichomonas tenax. It was found that the rate of Trichomonas tenax in males was 14(3.8%) and in female 10(7.2% ) while the rate of Entamoeba gingivalis in male was 45(12.4% ) and in female was 32 (3.2% ). The highest rate of both parasites was among age group (51-60)years old, there was significant relationship between the frequency of both parasites and some factors such as periodontal tissue condition gum and tooth decay .The rate of both infections was higher among non- brushing patients (5.7 %) than brushing patients (49.4%) . The highest rate was found among alcohol drinkers (65% ) followed by smokers (32.60% ) and non- smokers (14.70% ), there was significant relationship between the rate of infection and education status of patients, the highest rate was in the Illiterate level of education (45.2%) .
