Economic Analysis of the Variations in the Local Production and the Demand on the Red Meat in Iraq for the Period (1985- 2006)

Abstract

In this research, the qualification and quantities analysis for production and consumption of red mead were studied for the period (1985-2006). It includes also the analysis of the variations that happen in the local production and the demand on the red meat. The quantitave analysis’ results showed that the annual compound variation in the production of the red meat had reached (-2%) and the yearly compound variation of the demand on the red meat has reached (-3%). The negative sign means dropping in both local production and consumption; however, the production is still insufficient and it doesn’t match the consumption. This requires knowing the obstacles for the two variations mentioned above, and requires working hard to find suitable solutions for them concerning production, interest in the animal wealth should be cared to specifically; moreover, in Iraq, there are a lot of natural and economical potentialities which can be exploited to achieve all that successfully, in the hope of fulfilling self- sufficiency of this food article. As far as the consumption is concerned, we should strongly back up the Iraqi consumer by increasing his real income to enable him to get this food commodity due to its importance and because its demanded quantities reflect the living levels of the Iraqi consumer.
