Conventional Polarization Effects On the Propagated Pulses in Optical Fibers Systems

Abstract

The polarization mode dispersion phenomena in the optical system causesshift of the center of the propagated pulse, pulse broadening, and changing theoutput state of polarization relying on random polarization mode dispersion vectorand the input state of polarization. While, the polarization dependent lossphenomena causes a change of the power value relying on random polarizationdependent loss vector and the input state of polarization. In this paper, an alternative model to combine the two phenomenon has beenproposed, also an alternative formula of the output power that is linked to the inputstate of polarization and orientations of the random vectors of these twophenomenon is presented. The study showed that the output power fluctuates atlimits ± 20% and pulse center shifts at limits ± 3ps for input normalized Gaussianpulse with initial width 5ps . Also, the study presented that the output SOP changesrandomly due to these phenomenon.
