Study on the effect of sodium azide on the response of tomato plant Lycopersicon esculentum. Mill for multiplication and rooting in vitro

Abstract

The effect of BAor Kint at concentrations (0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0)mg/l and the interaction with sodium azideNaN3 at concentrations(0.0,4.0) Mm on shoot multiplication and IAA or IBA at concentrations (0.0,2.0,4.0,6.0)mg/L on rooting response of tomato plant cultivar Tres cantos in vitro were studied. The results revealed a significant effect for BA or KINTand the interaction with sodium azideNaN3 concentrations on rate of shoots number reached 16.7 ,18.7 respectivly when treated with 4.0 Mm of NaN3 and 4.0 mg/l BA or KINT with highest length reached 9.3 cm when treated with 4.0 Mm of NaN3 and free hormone medium(control treatment).Concerning to rooting response the results showed that 4.0 Mm of NaN3 and 4.0 mg/l of IAA , IBA affected positively on rooting percentage and gave 80 , 70 % respectively while highest number of roots were achieved with 4.0Mm of NaN3 and6.0 or2.0 mg/l IAA and IBA,reached 18.0,20.0 root/plant respectively.
