The Disintegration of Family Unit in Edward Albee's A Delicate Balance

Abstract

In the modern age, which is an age of anxiety, people look for some kind of identity for themselves. For in the twentieth century, which is marked by the loss of human faith, and the end of the dream of peace specially during and after the two World Wars, people ( effected by the existentialists ) begin to think that there could not be a God because no God would allow such violence to occur. Consequently, many people have still been looking for answers to their many questions on life. Some find science as an answer to their questions especially after the discovery of the atomic bomb. Whereas, many philosophers such as Sigmund Freud believe that the human behavior is irrational and a product of their instincts.
