Poetry of Yahiyah Al- Khabbaz Al-Balady Al- Hamawy Study and Documentation

Abstract

Two famous poets was known as Al- Khabbaz, the first is Abu Baker Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Hamdan who was known as Al- Khabbaz Al-Balady ( d. 436 A.H ) and Yahiyah bin Mohammed Al- Khabbaz Al-Balady Al- Hamawy with whose definitions we are dealing in this paper, as well as his poetry to be collected and documented.Yahiyah Al- Khabbaz had lived in the eighth century of Hegira, grew up in Al- sham in a literary environment made him interested on poetry to read more, meeting the famous literary figures. Due to his intelligence, deep thinking, originality and sense he became well known. In spite of his excellent poetry he still with the unrenowned whose poetry had not been studied, so most of his poetry was lost due to reasons of its reading or narration nature, moreover his biography is still unknown, to be one of the obstacles that the researcher faced through following up his life and collecting his poetry.This was one of the reasons of choosing the subject to collect his poetry from the books of literary and history to be near to the reader. The researcher found in his poetry a rich subject to reveal the poet`s life nature and his era which was full of worry and social disturbance. The research is divided into two parts, the first part deals with the poet`s life, his poetry features and characteristics. The second parts is devoted to the poetry that we had collected. This study is a service for our Arab literary and immortal heritage.
