Abstract

Alfred de Vigny is one of the originators of the romantic school. He is a poet and philosopher distinguished by the originality of the poetic genre that brought to French poetry. His style lies in the expression of human thought and philosophy in an epic and dramatic frame. His masterpiece the destiny reveals itself as a variety of themes: (Idealism, nature, religion, women, pessimism, and suffering). All these themes are relevant to the philosophical vision of the poet of which pessimism resulted from painful isolation of the poet. The poet was able to develop ideas expressing the suffering of humanity and the human condition; this philosophical vision appears to be a new means of expression that allows him to achieve this kind of poetry. Suffering revealed in this vision became a source for Vigny and an essential condition of poetic inspiration at the same time. This suffering is the strength and firmness of man.
