Effect of bunch bagging date palm(Phoenix dactyliferaL.) cv.Showaithy on pollination of paper bags in the proportion of contract fruits and insect injury lesser date moth(BarachedramydraulaMeyrick)

Abstract

Study was conducted in one of the groves of date palm in the city of Al- Rumaitha in the province of All- Muthanna in two seasons 2012 and 2013.The objective of this study was aimed to increase the ratio of fruit set and reduce the ratio of incidence by insect lesser date through bagging the female flowers when start of pollination process by bags of paper opened from two sides. The treatment of bagging achieved significant increased in the ratio of fruit set which reached to 95% in comparison with the control 86.17%. Also the incidence ofinsectlesser date was decreased by using bagging treatment which recorded 4%with a significant variation was recorded with control 14%. Also bagging treatment lead to an increase in weight and size of fruit where the bagging treatment achieved the highest average in weight 3.432gram and average of size 2.947 cm-3 of compared with control 2.350 grams weight and size 2.380 cm-3 after 50 day from bagging, as well as the bagging treatment led pass hanging process which using on date palm in the later time.
