Studying Grape Callus Gowth under invitro salt stress

Abstract

The study was conducted to studythe callus growth parameters of three varieties of grapes ( Kamali, Halwani and Farancy Aswad) under in vitro salt stress through the initiation of callus and cultured on MS nutrient medium provided with different concentrations of sodium chloride (0, 50, 100, 150, 200) mM for four weeks to study the impact on its growth .There was a negative effect of salinity on the callus fresh and dry weights and the relative growth rate , as it has reduction with increased salt concentration in medium . 200 mMNaCl gave lowest values compared with salt-free medium. There were significant effects of grape varieties on callus growth indicators, where Halwani cultivar gave the highest fresh weight, relative growth rate and lower membrane damage percentage, while Farancy Aswad cultivar gave higher dry weight compared with Kamali cultivar which gave the lowest rates for characters of callus growth and highest membrane damage percentage .
