Biological Solution Broadband Cavity Enhanced Absorption Spectroscopy Measurements

Abstract

In earlier studies, it was demonstrated that the sensitivity of conventional absorption spectroscopy can be improved significantly by using Cavity Enhanced Absorption Spectroscopy (CEAS). Sensitive liquid-phase measurements were made on the biological solution such as Lyophilied Bovine haemoglobin in a 1 cm cuvette. The Cavity Enhanced Factor (CEF) or the number of passes was calculated: 55 passes for the high reflectivity mirrors were obtained. The sensitivity of the experimental setup could be determined by calculating the minimum detectable change in the absorption coefficient αmin and it was 7.6×10-5 cm-1. The limit of detection (LOD) for haemoglobin was 3nM.
