The effect of salinity and salicylic acid on cereal crop and content of two varieties of wheat ( Triticum aestivum L. )

Abstract

The present study was carried out at the period between 22/11/2013 to 18 /4 / 2014 in plastic house conditions , the aim of the study to know the effect of salt stress on some contents ( cereal biology , number of spiklets / spike , number of seeds / spike and seeds weight ) of two varieties of wheat plant ( Ipa 99 and Abu - Ghraib 1 ) that were treated by five salt concentrations of from the solution of sodium chloride (NaCl) salt are ( 50 , 100 , 150 , 200 and 250 ) mmol /l in addition to distill water as a control treatment , and at the same time the two varieties of plant were treated by salicylic acid at the concentration ( 100 ) mg / l by leaf spray method to show their roles in decreases of negative effect of salinity. The results of the study were revealed that , the salinity irrigated water used at all the concentrations causes a significant reduce in all contents of the cereal that studied , and the two varieties were differences in their response to salinity concentrations , and a variety Ebba 99 was excellence a variety Abu - Ghrab 1, and the treatments by salicylic acid causes a reduce of the effect of salt stress that resulted from the salinity irrigated water were added to both varieties , the variety Ebba 99 was more response from the variety Abu -Ghrab 1 to the treatment by the plant hormone.
