The Magnetic Field Analysis of a Superconducting Helical Undulator with Iron

Abstract

A superconducting undulator has many advantages, such as a short cycle length, a high magnetic field strength, and a flexible adjustability of magnetic flux density. When applied in a synchrotron radiation light source, a superconducting undulator can produce x-rays with a highy energy and a high brightness, which could be used in many applications. The analytical expression of the magnetic field for an infinitely long helical Undulator has derived by Chasman, Park, and their co-workers in terms of Undulator period length, uniform current density, and inner radius and without any specific coil dimensions. The present work is focusing on studying the effect of inner and outer radius of the coil on the magnetic field of the superconducting helical Undulator with iron. A computer program was established using Matlab software to analyze the shape of the magnetic field equation. The results showed that the magnetic field of the Undulator depends on the inner and outer radius of coil that led to change the amount of current passing through helical Undulator.
