The value chain analyse of fish techniques of floating cages and ponds in babylon province

Abstract

The fish sector is considered an important component of the economies of many countries in the world including Arab countries. It is also considered an important component of food security. This work is considered as the first attempt to study value chain for fish in Iraq. The objective of this study is to identify the main problems and constrains facing different links in the value chain of fish, and to analyses revenue, production costs, and to calculate some quantitative indicators like value added. The results showed that average value added of the different links is amount to 94.69 dinars ha-1, 1725.5, and 372.45, 574.9 dinars kg-1, from each links hatcheries, producers, wholesalers and retailers. The results also showed that the share of different links from value chain for average total value additions as follows: 3.42% for hatcheries link, 62.34% for producer link, 13.645% for wholesaler's link, and 20.77% for retailer's link. While cages producers added 73.24% from average value added it is amount to 3894. 4 dinar kg-1; on the level techniques cages floating. The study also identifies the main challenges and problems facing each link in chain value and forward the suitable solution, The research recommends that attention should be given to bath preparation larvae development before period transferred from them within the hatchery, support production input particular of intensive feed, and working to reduce costs it, encourage and support the investment in floating cages technique for fish production, contribution and support of government for system marketing and markets special building within the health specification and technical for marketing and fish trade
