Assessment of Maize and Sorghum Crop Production in the Division of Al-Shatrah Agriculture, Thi-Qar Province

Abstract

The research has been done in the Division of Al- Shatrah Agriculture, Thi-Qar Province for the two summer seasons 2014 and 2015 to show the reality of maize and sorghum crop production. Al- Shatrah district has been chosen as a place for the research as being at the second level in terms of population among the administrative units as well as the fourth level by area. The production of the two crops is concentrated in the north region with the rate 99.2% for sorghum, 82% for maize. At the second level 35% and the first level 52% in the production of the two crops respectively between administrative units known for production. Such values show the success of the economic efficiency under the condition and risks. In spite of the low productivity of both crops 250 and 510 kg respectively and production value 157950 and 382500 ID, and the income value 55800 and 200250 ID. All other economic criteria are with positive values. The statistical analysis using the test L.S.D indicated that there was a difference of the calculated values between the two crops. We can make destination of some of agricultural division lands to produce maize and the rest to produce sorghum and to increase production by reducing the cost of changing production by government support for production process.
