Effect of spraying of Potassium and Iron on some quality and yield traits of tomato (Lycopersicon Esculentum Mill.) in plastic house

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted in green house in Al-Tahriyah/ Babylon Province during 2013/2014 season at soil mixed loamy sand to study the effect of spraying 4 levels of potassium fertilizer (0, 15, 30, and 45 kg K. ha-1) using K2SO4.7H2O, (K2O 41%) and 4 levels of iron fertilizer (0, 25, 50, and 75 kg Fe ha-1) using Fe-EDTA, and their interactions on yield and quality parameters of tomato plant wig Dan variety, by Four sprays among 30 days. The experiment was designed using factorial according to RCBD with 3 replicates, and means were compared with LSD 0.05. Results showed that, the treatment (45 kg K ha-1) significantly increased the percentage of in fruit dry matter, fruit T.S.S, fruit volume, fruit hardness, No. of fruit per plant, and total yield per m2 with increasing percentage of 33.78, 64.00, 24.19, 32.73, 33.96, 16.76, 54.56 and 55.88 % respectively compared to control treatment. Iron spraying treatment also increased above traits which were 40.20, 20.59, 17.44, 19.34, 27.67, 9.49, 34.56, and 39.18 % respectively. The interaction treatment (45kg K ha-1 + 75 kg Fe ha-1) gave highest value of all above parameter which were 13.34%, 7.56%, 11.07 kg.cm-1 , 132.78 cm3 , 66.46 fruit.plant-1 , 127.18 gm , 6.323 kg.m-2 , and 28.146 kg.m2 respectively .
