Detection Entamoeba histolytica infection in Mosul City and study of the effect of some factors on it

Abstract

This study represents a survey on Entamoeba histolytica infection as one of causative agents of diarrhea in attended patient to some hospitals in Mosul city and some private laboratories at a period from October 2011 on the end September 2012.Examination of 250 stool specimens and parsony their ages arranged between (less than one year – 20 year), showed 60% infection with Entamoeba histolytica. Higher percentage of infection recorded in patient of 5-9 years old, which reached to 20% in male , while the lower percentage of infection recorded in patient (less than one year), which reached to 4% in female.The study also shows a relation ship between infection rate & Living level in different age groups, since highest infection rate was recorded in 5-9 years age group with good & medium living level, which reached the 13.3% & 11.3% respectively, but the infection rate decline to 0.6% in the age group (less than one year) with good living level.The results of study show also the highest rate of infection with this parasite in June and November, so it reach 16.6% in both monthly but the lowest percentage was recorded in February as 0.6%.
