Patterns of classroom interaction of history teachers and their impact on students' acquisition of historical concepts

Abstract

The present study aimed to identify (patterns of classroom interaction for history teachers and their effect on their students' acquisition of historical concepts)The sample of the study consisted of 3 history teachers for of the fourth stage as one teacher of each interactive style, and then chooses a random class for each teacher among the classes that they are teach. After the exclusion of postponed and failed students the sample of students reached 96 in the three groups. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher adopted the observation card prepared by (KUMAR) and the researchers Alani and Abdullah (1997) standardization of the tool according to the Iraqi environment to analyze interaction of class, to detect the class interaction pattern of the history teachers identified as (teacher centered mode, participative mode, student centered mode). The researcher also prepared the test of historical concepts consisted of (22) objectivity sections of three-alternative multi-choice type, and the researcher verified the validity of the tools and stability, and using the appropriate statistical means were analyzed results showed:1- Students' acquisition of historical concepts is influenced by the type of classroom interaction and is better in the case of teacher and student participation in the exchange of information within the classroom.2- History teachers avoid the teacher-centered model in teaching style.3- Prefer a participative style by teachers in teaching where it was more effective in acquiring and retaining historical concepts.4- Superiority of participative style on the other styles.According to the results, the researcher came out with a number of recommendations, including the use of modern teaching systems such as the Kumar system to analyze the classroom interaction by the teacher, practicly train history teachers to analysis teaching behavior, especially, according to the research tool styles .
