The Syntactic Term of Al-Samine Al-Halabi in Al-Dur Al-Masoon

Abstract

To shed light on the syntactic school of Al-Samine, we preferred to explain the terminology he used in his book Al-Dur Al-Masoon whether they are Kufic or Basri. The disagreement was considerable between the Kufic and Basri people in the field of syntactic term until it became widespread among the recent scholars that this term is Basri and that term is Kufic( ).Al-Samine belonged to the Basri school, and even though he did not announce that, the body of grammarians agreed on most of his views and rarely did they disagree with him. The Basri tendency of Al-Samine is manifested more in the syntactic terminology he used in his book. However, he did not ignore the Kufic terminology scattered in his book that they do not reach the degree of their preceding ones. This might be due to the fact that the Kufic term was not as widespread as its Basri counterpart. Besides, we did not get a clear and complete picture about it, and this could be attributed to the lack of most books we of the people of this school. Moreover, most of their books we received are not classified under syntax but rather under another sciences as Linguistics and Interpretation( ), such as the books of Al-Faraa, Ibn Al-Sakeet,Thilab, and Abi Baker Al-Anbari.
