Ibn Abi Hatam Al Razi: A Biographical Study

Abstract

Ibn Abi Hatam Al Razzi is considered as one of the prominent figures in the Arab Islamic history and one of the trusted people for his recitation of the Prophetic Hadith as a script and its reported people. He is considered by the reciters and trusted narrators as someone that cannot be doubted. The study included his name, origin, popular name, his birth in the Islamic east, his growth and childhood among the scientists and scholars. After his mastery of sciences, he travelled to the places where the scientists and narrators live. He started his travelling since he was young when he accompanied his father. He travelled three times to seek knowledge.Ibn Abi Hatam Al Razzi had great works comparing the writings of the sciences of his age like the interpretation of the Holly Quran and the books of biographical evaluation, criticism of Jahmis, the reasons of hadith. Such works participated in conveying the teachings of the earlier Muslims.He was a man of high morals and ethics. He was ascetic, pious, scientific, and practical. He was praised by many scholars including his mentors. He also had his students that mastered the sciences of hadith narration and scripts. He continued in this path until his death in 327 A.H.
