Accent Effect on Hamza Recitations (Glottal Stop) in the Interpretation of "Al Hidaya" by Maki bin Abi Talib Al Qeisi (d. 437 A. H.)

Abstract

Hamza (glottal Stop) is one of the oldest controversial linguistic phenomena. It is a phonological phenomenon that gained a lot of attention by old and modern scholars. Some Arab tribe pronounce it heavily like Tamim, Asad, Qeis ,and Rabi'a whereas other urban tribes pronounce it lightly like Hutheil, Mecca, and Medina. They also pronounce it slowly and sometimes neglect it. People interested in Quran recitation were interested in the study of Hamza cases. One of those scholars was Maki Al Qeisi in his interpretation "AL Hidaya ila Bulough Al Nihaya". He was interested in Quran recitations which is the focus of this study that discusses Accent Effect on Hamza Recitations (Glottal Stop) in the Interpretation of "Al Hidaya" by Maki bin Abi Talib Al Qeisi (d. 437 A. H.). The study falls in to three sections:The first section discusses the strong articulation of hamza, the second will deal with long and short articulation, while the third deals with intervals and stop hamza
