Context and its impact on linguistic semantics

Abstract

Context and its impact on linguistic semanticsProf.Dr.Khadija Zobar msc.Salma Dawood SalmanCollege of Science for Women/University of BaghdadAbstractContext has a great value in determining meanings and understanding speech as well as it has a significant impact on interpretation of the sacred text (Holy Quran) since it needs to be carefully understood by knowing the different circumstances surrounding a certain text, including knowledge of the reasons behind descent, transcriber and copy, etc. The theory of context is of an authentic Arab origin, although it is considered as the product of modern semantic research in its current situation, so that Arab scientists had exerted pioneering efforts to take care of the contextual semantics at both the theoretical and practical levels. They addressed its importance and employed it in study and analysis of texts, but they were not able to establish a scientific theory in this regard for their interest went to the applied side more than the theoretical side. The context of contemporary linguistic research has become very important and attracted the attention of linguists till it became an integrated theory related to the efforts of many scientists.
