Historical Culture for Teachers of History in Primary Stage and Its Relationship with Their Students Achievements

Abstract

The present research aims at finding out the contribution to which the historical culture enjoyed by the History Teachers in the Primary stage and its relation to the achievement of their students. The researcher followed the descriptive approach. The research sample is history teachers who teach social subjects in the Public Primary Schools for the General Directorate of Education/Governorate of Diyala for the academic year 2016 -2017. The research sample consisted of a group of Teachers selected randomly from several schools belonging to the General Directorate of Education/Governorate of Diyala for the academic year 2016-2017. The researcher prepared a measurement showing the dimensions of the historical culture. Its validity and stability have been confirmed. The researcher used the coefficient of Alpha-Cronbach stability, T-test for one sample and t-test for two interrelated samples. The results suggest that the historical culture of the teachers of history in their dimensions contributes to increase in their students' achievements. Thus the researcher recommends to prepare training courses by special committees at the Ministry of Education to develop and train history teachers in order to strengthen their historical culture as they are considered positive aspects of their personalities. The researcher suggested a number of proposals, including: Conduct a similar study on teachers both male and female of the current research variables and compare their results with the results of the current research and conduct a similar study of the current research on the students at the Department of History in Iraqi Universities.
