Ethiopian-Somali Relations 1974-2000

Abstract

Ethiopia sought to adopt an expansionary policy in the Horn of Africa, and its objectives were fitted with the aims of European colonialism. After Berlin Conference held on 1884-1885, it succeeded in extracting the territory of Western Somalia and included it within its territory for the region has mineral wealth such as silver, copper and iron, as well as its fertile land for grazing, which led to the entry of the two countries in two wars during the years 1964 and 1978 .It did not achieve either of their political and military objectives, on the contrary, they have deteriorated the political situation in both countries and have destabilized the Horn of Africa, by allowing regional and international powers to intervene in order to put an end to the political differences between the two countries which were clarified during the rule of presidents who came after each other in both countries
