Anatomical study of aging on human kidney by ultrasonography

Abstract

The kidney like many other orangs and glands undergoes changes with age and in the course of aging there is a progressive loss of renal parenchyma so that one third to one half of renal nephrones are lost by old age .(14). Forty male and female volunteers age ranging from 21-70 years, and dividing in to five groups : group A (21-30 years), group B (31-40years), group C (41-50 years) ,group D(51-60), group E (61-70).The ultrasonographic inspection of volunteers kidneys showed a good negative correlation between age each of the kidney length and renal cortical thickness and non- significant correlation between age and the width of kidneys.
