Democracy and the concept of young people) a field study

Abstract

The concept of democracy differs in the definition from one person to others according to culture, trend and belief. This study aims at presentation of youth’s knowledge about the dimension and implication of the concept of democracy. In this study, the researcher has relied upon the questionnaire technique as a mean of researching. This research however is done on a specimen of students randomly selected from the University of Diyla. This specimen consists of means for the achievement of results.The result arrived at include:1-The output data show that the knowledge of democracy has reached its highest level at the University of Stage. Theses appear to be logical as the more experience a person gets the more knowledgeable and mature they become. 2-The majority of the students believe that democracy should be taught. This is a positive result showing the importance of democracy in the construction of communities and in the spread of justice. 3-Democracy, in the opinion of the youth, mean the respect of others opinions and the non-interference in the affairs of others. 4-The most of the people especially student, practice democracy as an act of behavior in a community of values.Therefore, the researcher has come up with a number of suggestions including: 1-It is important to regard the principles of democracy as a subject worthy of being studied at schools and universities to spread the culture of democracy. 2-It is necessary to strength the spiritual, social and democratic construction in different ethical, religious and educational fields.3- It is necessary to carry out a similar study of all social section so that the result reached be generalized over the whole society.4-It is devised that more studies and researches be done on the youth-related matters so as to be explore their economic , educational , cultural and social condition
