EPIDEMIOLOGY OF HOSPITLIZED PATIENTS IN CLOSTRIDIUM DIFFICILE MOSUL CITY

Abstract

Clostridium difficile were isolated by 63 (19.3%) from a total of 325 rectal swabs collected from patients who stayed more than one week at Mosul city hospitals who were under treatment with broad spectrum antibiotics, between September 2004 and December 2005 .This study shows that females were more infected with Clostridium difficile than males, and most of our isolation of this isolated microorganism came from elderly patients, also isolation increased in patients with diarrhea comparison with patients without diarrhea
