Role of Neurophysiology in predicting poor outcome in Bell's palsy

Abstract

Bells palsy is a common disorder affecting all age groups and both genders. There are scientific evidence about the relation between the facial nerve conduction velocity and the severity of the Bell's palsy. In this study, that is performed in the neurology clinic and neurophysiology unit of the Al-Sader Teaching hospital in Najaf, the nerve conduction velocity is measured in 20 patients with Bell's palsy (patient group) and in 20 normal subjects (control group). The results showed that recovery in patient whom their nerve velocity less than 30 m/s is poor & delayed in comparison with those whom their nerve velocity more than 30 m/s.
