Abstract

AbstractAn experiment was conducted during the growing season of 2008/2009 in fields of the College of Agriculture / University of Basrah to study the effect of root restriction and foliar spraying with vitamin C on growth, seed yield of fennel and its active components .This experiment included 6 treatments combination resulted from the interaction between two pot sizes i.e. 289.14 and 471.42cm3 and three concentrations of vitamin C i.e. 0 , 15 and 30 mg/liter. Results showed that Plants grown in large pots significantly increased in plant height , leaf number /plant , dry weights / plant, seeds yield/plant and oil yield/plant , whereas plants grown in small pots significantly increased in carbohydrate content in leaves and increased nitrogen and calcium content in seeds. Spraying with vitamin C at 15 mg/L significantly increased seeds yield/plant, oil yield/plant and phosphorus content in seeds , whereas Spraying with vitamin C at 30 mg/L significantly increased potassium content in seeds. Spraying with vitamin C significantly increased chlorophyll content in leaves compared to untreated treatment. There was significant effect of the interaction between the two factors on all studied parameters.
