Abstract

This research aims at showing the methods used in dealing with the stressful life events as employed by the counselors and educators who work in the area of directorate of education in Wasit city and the relation of these methods to their emotional equilibrium. To achieve this aim , a group of 250 counselors was chosen from the two sexes . To achieve these aims ,two measures are used .The first shows the methods used in dealing with stressful life experience in Wasit governorate .The researchers create a measure this variable according to the scientific steps of psychological measures formation. They depend on previous literature and survey to fix a set of methods used in dealing with stressful life events , in addition to show these methods to some experts . The experts approve four methods such as escape and avoidance , social and religious attribution , and confronting problems. The researchers prepare a set of items to be measured in a form of verbal situations which amount to 35 situations for each situation , there are four statements to be answered .Each statement measures a particular method .The researcher do a logical and statistical analysis for these items in terms of the standardized features of validity and reliability .Validity is tabulated in terms of face validity and construct validity while reliability is done by repetition.The second tool is intended to measure the level of emotional equilibrium .The researchers adopt Almasudi ‘s 2002 scale to measure this variable in the research sample after extracting some of the standard features of reliability and validity .After the application of the measures on the research sample and the analysis of statistical data to approve the objectives of the research , T test is applied on one group and then on two independent groups in addition to Pearson correlation coefficient and variance .The research has shown some results .1-The counseling Educators of the research sample use the confronting problem method .The mean of the scores of the individuals is larger than the theoretical mean with a significant degree of 0.05 .In addition , the use of the social and religious attribution is larger than the theoretical mean and it is significant at 0.05 , while the escape and avoidance are not significant because the T value is lesser than the table value at 0.05 . 2-The level of the emotional equilibrium is higher than the theoretical mean with a significant difference of 0.05 for both sex .3-The results show significant difference between the methods of dealing with stressful life events and the emotional equilibrium of the individuals .4-The research shows a significant difference between the methods of dealing with stressful life events and sex variable .In the light of the findings some recommendations and future research are given .
