Abstract

The improvement and development of highway network and intersections in the cities is the most important aims that must be used by decision maker in order to be most suitable agents the highly progress of traffic and transportation, where the (Level of Service (LOS)) is the best pointer about traffic characteristics like design speed, flow, density, trip time, and safety crossing for pedestrians. In this study data has been collected by using photograph technique method to calculate basic traffic characteristics with in peak hour period on collection area of 80- street and its crossing with (Hillah-Najaf) & (Hillah-Karbala) highways also engineering survey was done for study area then statistical and engineering program (Excel & Highway Capacity System) to the data analysis where the analysis done during the following stages:1st. Stage: study of reality of the roadway section and intersection in its current (Do Nothing ) .2nd. Stage: development of intersection as (at grade intersection) taking in account acceleration & deceleration lanes.3rd. stage: development of intersection to the interchange.The study recommended that by design interchange type (Trumpet) in the study area , level of service has been improved from type (E) to type (C),with secure isolation movements and achieve a streamlined , convenience and security for users
