Ostracoda and Paleoecology of the Lower Miocene from Sequence in Hamrin well no.12 and Ajille well no.6, Northern Iraq.

Abstract

The paleoecology and environmental relationships of the Ostracoda assemblages from Lower Miocene sequence represented by the Euphrates Formation and Serkagni / Euphrates intertonguing Formations in Hamrin well no.12 and Ajille well no.6 Northern Iraq, as well as sedimentologyical study is based on petrographical description of thin section, which Leading to the conclusion that the Euphrates Formation deposited in the inner shelf and Serikagni / Euphrates intertonguing in outer shelf depths. This faunal abundance of the Ostracoda assemblages represent a southern shelf Tethys fanna which indicates tropical – subtropical climatic condition.
