Evaluation the performance of stores using the system (5s) as a method of Total Quality A field study in the stores General Company for Foodstuff Trading

Abstract

Many methods exist to evaluate the work of any organization one of these methods is (5s) consider as apart of the quality system. If you wander in a working area checking the organizing and arrangement, finding that the place in clean and free of dirt and grease, the equipments are arranged accurately, and the consistency of the work is without delay, you will immediately realize the good work of this organization, the raised productivity and that the organization is a developing material and vice versa.The achievement of good organizing is everyone responsibility starting with the manager to the working stuff.The stores of general company for trading food materials in Diyala province have been selected for evaluation as typical stores in terms of the storage areas and as being spread all over Iraq provinces which enable the research results circulation.The research problem represented in the delay of storing duties completion occurred in the general company for trading food materials in terms of time, increasing the effort in storing duty, and the rise of storing costs. The reduction of time, effort, and costs in storing duty is of great importance for the store management because the stock represents large amount of the most organization capital including stores of this company.Research goals set follows:The stores of the general company for trading food materials have evaluated according to the usage of (5s) system to achieve.1- more benefit of the storing areas.2- more efficient use of storing and transporting equipments and handling.3- conserve less quantity of the stock.4- reduce the rate of accidents and word related injuries.5- Raise the quality of storing duty inside the general company for trading food materials in Diyala province.The research has assumed that the reason of the delay in storing duties completion in different kinds is the miss follow of the use of the modern scientific methods including the comprehensive quality system in storing duty. The researcher has concluded the following:1- lack of knowledge for stores stuff of various administrative levels to the concept of comprehensive quality or (5s) system.2- weakness in the training aspect for store stuff and lack of interest in the training and developing programs. 3- The interest of all stores focuses arrange and organize storing and transporting equipments handling, and neglecting the rest aspects.4- The management of general company for trading food materials lacks to the interest in disciplinary aspects of work and behavior, habits, the in concern of storing duty conditions and creating competitive spirit among the stuff in company stores.5- The management gives less attention to a huge procedures such as, confirming and following up the results in creasing control, and focusing on control the programs.6- Stores evaluation results the following store no-7 comes in the first place following by store no-6 as the second while stores no-5,1,4,2,3 have came in the thired, forth, fifth, and sixth place respectively.Researcher recommended the following:1- The necessity of spreading the cognitive awareness of the comprehensive quality concept as well as duty like the continuous improvement system (5s).2- Training the stores stuff to apply the modern methods in storing duty and how to use the whole items of (5s) system.3- Encouraging the stores stuff for the group work which lads to the distingnishment of work and the continuous development.4- Holding contests in the stores to evaluate the work for motivation on developing and improving work, grinding rewards to the contests winners.5- The necessity that stores senior management holds meetings and symposiums to be familiar with problems and obstacles at the applications of (5s) system to be avoided in future.
