EFFECT SOME PLANT RESIDUES AND PLANTING DISTANCE ON GROWTH AND YIELD POTATO (Solanum tuberosum L.) VARIETY (BURREN)

Abstract

Field experiment was conducted during the autumn season of 2011 to study the effect plant residues(Wheat straw, Rice residue and Esparto grass) and three planting distance (20,25 and 30) cm on potato plant variety Burren by using Factorial in Randomized Complete Block Design (R.C.B.D) with three replicates. The results show that using the Wheat straw lead to give the highest in plant height 55.87 cm , dry matter 14.77% , plant yield 900 gm and number of tubers for the marketable 7.4 tuber.plant-1.The Rice residue lead to give the highest in number of stems 4.4 stem.plant-1 .The Esparto grass lead to give the highest in diameter of tuber 22.75 mm . As Far as the effect of planting distance the results showed that there were no significant effect on the studied characters.
