Effect of cultivar and Organic Fertilizer and Mowing date on growth and Yield of dill plant (Anethum graveolens L.)

Abstract

Abstract : Afield experiment was conducted in Babylon, during the season 2011-2012 to study the effect of cultivar and spraying organic fertilizer and mowing dates on growth and yield of Dill plant (Anethum graveolens L.). The experiment includes 18 treatments i.e. interaction of two varieties of Dill plant which are local and Syrian and three concentrations of liquid organic fertilizer, three sprays 14 days between each and three dates of mowing . Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD).The means were compared according to L.S.D. (0.05) probability the results showed:- The Dill local surpaesed Syrian variety in number of branches and leaves, Fresh and dry yield per area unit, plant content of chlorophyll, nitrogen , potassium and fibers percentage and volatile oil yield as compared with Syrian cultivar. The results of spraying with organic fertilizer revealed that spraying plant with 6 ml.L-1 concentrate leads to significant increasing in number of branches and leaves, Fresh and dry yield per area unit, total chlorophyll, nitrogen, phosphorus , potassium and fibers percentage and volatile oil yield if compared with control. Results of mowing dates showed the third date leads significant increasing in plant height, number of branches and leaves, stem diameter, fresh yield, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium percentage, soluble Proteins, volatile oil percentage, volatile oil yield if compared with the first date which gave the lowest values..
