Abstract

AMMORRITE TRIBES AND THEIR HISTORICAL ROLE IN MESOPOTAMIA AND LEVANTAss. Prof. Lit D. Imad Tariq TawfeekHistory Dep. – College of Education for WomenBaghdad University(Abstract Research)The research titles “Ammorrite tribes and their historical role in Mesopotamia and Levant” deals with tribe structure, nomination, political and cultural roles of these tribes in Mesopotamia and Levant, as it terminate Sumerian presence in Iraq and changed historical course and contributed in changing population landmarks and started new bright era, in addition to admitting new beliefs, gods and laws, beside ruling principles which became tribal, i.e., dynasties instead of Sumerian rulings based on religion belief.These tribes dealt with political changes according to alliances based on individual profit of that time kings and their contradictions. We mentioned some tribe names, which is an obvious progress for the first time, as Sumerian according to our knowledge didn’t mention their tribes, whereas, we find opposite in this era.The ruling was based on Sheik, whom is the king and he was the highest priest and military leadership. Over here, Sheiks were kings. The era had many contradicted political, social and military aspects. Besides, the power of some tribes that contributed in weakening states and demise. The research finished in indicating results that were reached by stating events and nature of these tribes till taking over political power.
