EFFECT OF SOWING DEPTHS ON GERMINATION AND YIELD FOR THREE VARIETIES OF WINTER CHICKPEA

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at field of Agriculture and Forestry College / University of Mosul during winter season of 2012-2013 to study the effect of sowing depths (4,7 and 10 cm) on some growth and yield for three varieties of winter chickpea (Ghab4 , Dijlah and Rafiden) using randomized complete block design (R. C. B. D.) with three replicates . The results showed that there was no significant differences between sowing depths in all the characteristics studied , as well as ,Rafiden variety led to significant increase in weight of filled and total pods/plant , seed yield and yield multiplication ,and significant decrease in number of days from sowing to 50 % flowering . The doubled interaction had a significant effect in most of traits studied , Rafiden variety sown in the depth 7cm was superior in relative content for chlorophyll , number of days from sowing to 50 % flowering , weight of filled and total pods/ plant , seed yield and yield multiplication .
